What type of micro SD card does Raven recommend? Follow
IMPORTANT: Using micro SD cards that do not meet the recommended specifications can result in zero-byte files, corrupted images, video, or poor live video streaming. Purchase micro SD cards from reputable retailers. Verify the warranty from the manufacturer to ensure it will not void their warranty if used in dashcams, surveillance systems, or "in-car recording devices."
*Micro SD cards are included with Raven Business units and are required to be used. For personal units, Micro SD cards are not required but are available for purchase on the Raven website. At this time, we cannot recommend a specific brand or model to purchase.*
Raven's minimum recommended requirements for micro SD cards are:
- MLC (NAND Flash Memory Technology)
- V30
- UHS Speed Class (U3) or higher
- UHS Bus (UHS-1) or higher
- A1 or higher
- Class 10
- FAT32 format (32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB)
- Random Write Speed of 2.0 or higher in the Rand. Write 4KB MB/s QD32 (Most important speed.)
Please review the "Rand. Write 4KB MB/s QD32" column on the Camera Memory Speed website to see SD Card brands that meet the Random Write Speed requirement.
Access the SD Association website to discover the full details on the standards developed for SD card memory technology.
The minimum recommendations are meant for power users who wish to have the option to expand beyond the internal 16GBs of memory. It is not necessary to purchase a high-performance micro SD card unless you plan to record volumes of HD video.
Raven works best with high-performance MLC micro SD cards designed for use in Dash Cams or Surveillance Systems, formatted for FAT32 in the following capacities (32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB) and meet the minimum recommended specifications listed above.
It is also ill-advised to purchase generic or re-branded SD cards since you would be unable to confirm the true manufacturer.
*Be very careful not to purchase a counterfeit micro SD card. This video demonstrates a method to identify a fake.*
